Real Weddings | Donna & Harry

I was contacted by Donna and Harry in early April, having been recommended by The Wedding Planner School. Donna and Harry had already booked their ceremony and reception at the beautiful Tracy Estate & Parklands in Honiton, however being largely a dry-hire venue, were looking for additional support in the lead up to their wedding and coordination on the day itself.

Donna and Harry were an extremely fun couple to work with - very laid back yet keen to incorporate little personal touches, and they were looking for a festival wedding with camping on-site for themselves and their guests later in the evening. Festival flags were hired to surround the ceremony area, gorgeous festival invites were issued - it was going to be great!

The wedding was scheduled for the last weekend in August, but… after a long Summer of gorgeous weather (one of the hottest on record!), in true British fashion the weather took a turn for the worse that very morning. It absolutely thundered down.

Now to put this in perspective, the venue has a fixed marquee so we knew the reception would be safe. But literally everything else is held outside. We had accounted for a potential downpour in our wet weather plan, hiring a stretch tent for the ceremony and clear umbrellas for the bridal party. However with no break in the rain whatsoever until very much later into the reception, it was always going to be a bit of a challenge, not least from a photography angle!

But do you know what? It really was great! After a little wobble by the Bride on the morning (and who could blame her?), by the time she arrived at the venue both herself and all the guests were in jubilant spirits. Bridesmaids and Ushers paired up (umbrellas in hand), and so began the walk to the ceremony site. When Donna arrived to meet Harry at the gazebo to take their vows, the love between them was palpable, and no amount of rain was going to put a dampener on the festivities.

Post-ceremony, guests enjoyed drinks and canapes under the stretch tent, and when the rain eased slightly they made their way to the marquee for the reception, where they enjoyed a three-course meal provided by Al Fresco Catering (featuring Pieminister pies), and an evening of entertainment, even including a glitter make up artist!

I was fortunate enough to have the help of an fantastic assistant Adele Thompson on the day, who lives fairly close to the area and was able to help out with last-minute logistics - considering the challenging conditions her help was invaluable!

All photography was captured beautifully by Samantha Garrett at Kin Photography, who despite the weather managed obtain some incredibly creative rain shots (that umbrella image really is one of my all time favourites!)

Thank you to all suppliers involved creating this unforgettable wedding, it was a total joy to work with you all.
